The Monks & Nuns series draws on the austere architecture and contemplative atmosphere of the Cistercian monastery of Santes Creus in Catalonia. Simplified human figures are constructed from hand-built and wheel-thrown forms, incorporating architectural details inspired by arches, cloisters and stone supports.
The clay is intentionally left unglazed, allowing its natural colour, texture and imperfections to remain visible. When illuminated from within, the hooded forms create a soft halo of reflected light, adding a quiet symbolic reference to contemplation and spiritual life.
